Choosing Acibadem International Hospital for Mitrofanoff Procedure gives patients access to experienced reconstructive urologists, advanced urodynamic testing, urinary imaging, specialized pediatric or adult urinary care, and structured postoperative bladder management. Established in 1989, the JCI accredited hospital in Istanbul, Turkey has 112 beds and provides specialized treatment for complex bladder-emptying disorders.
Mitrofanoff Procedure is performed under appropriate anaesthesia. The surgeon creates a catheterizable channel using the appendix or another suitable tissue and connects it between the bladder and the abdominal wall. The channel is positioned so that a catheter can be inserted periodically to empty the bladder. In selected patients, the procedure may be combined with bladder augmentation or other reconstructive surgery. After surgery, patients are taught catheterization and bladder-care techniques, while potential complications include infection, channel narrowing, leakage, stone formation, or difficulty passing the catheter.
