FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What conditions does an orthopaedic surgeon treat?

An orthopaedic surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Common conditions include fractures, arthritis, sports injuries, spinal disorders, bone tumours, and congenital deformities.

What types of surgeries does an orthopaedic surgeon perform?

Orthopaedic surgeons perform joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder), arthroscopic surgeries, fracture repair, reconstructive surgery, minimally invasive procedures, tumour resections, and limb-sparing surgeries for bone and soft tissue cancers.

When should I consult an orthopaedic surgeon?

You should consult an orthopaedic surgeon if you have persistent joint or bone pain, limited mobility, sports injuries, fractures, deformities, or suspected bone or soft tissue tumours. Early consultation can prevent complications and improve outcomes.

Do orthopaedic surgeons treat sports-related injuries?

Yes. They manage injuries such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, meniscus injuries, shoulder dislocations, tendon ruptures, and overuse injuries, providing both surgical and non-surgical treatments.

Are minimally invasive procedures available in orthopaedics?

Yes. Minimally invasive orthopaedic surgeries include arthroscopy for joints, percutaneous fracture fixation, and small-incision joint replacements, which generally result in faster recovery and reduced postoperative pain.
