Dr. Sanjay Pandey

• Dr. Sanjay Pandey is a well-known neurologist and academician who now serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology. He is worldwide recognized for his considerable research and clinical expertise in Parkinson's disease and movement disorders, and has committed his career to the advancement of neurological science and patient care.
• He earned his MBBS from Grant Medical College in Mumbai, followed by his MD from the Institute of Medical Sciences at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi. His professional neurology training and research career began at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow, where he studied movement problems in patients with Japanese encephalitis during his residency.
• Dr. Pandey, a young faculty member at the GB Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (GIPMER) in New Delhi, produced seminal research on sleep-related disorders and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's. In 2011, he was awarded a prestigious Indo-US Science and Technology Forum Fellowship, which allowed him to pursue advanced fellowship study in Parkinson's disease and movement disorders at NINDS/NIH in the United States, under the tutelage of Dr. Mark Hallett.
• During his fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, he worked on a variety of intramural research projects involving essential tremor, dystonia, dyskinesia, post-traumatic movement disorders, deep brain stimulation (DBS), and the development of novel Parkinson's disease assessments. After returning to India, he founded a comprehensive Parkinson's disease and movement disorders center at GIPMER.
• Dr. Pandey has led and contributed to numerous national and international research projects over the last decade, resulting in new Indian data on Parkinson's disease, dystonia, tremor, functional movement disorders, movement disorder genetics, Wilson's disease, and post-stroke movement disorders. He has overseen over 30 DM Neurology dissertations and served as the primary investigator for several multicentric research supported by the Government of India, including the Indian Movement Disorder Registry and Bio-Bank.
• He presently chairs a study group for the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society, demonstrating his global prominence in the subject.
