About Dr. Baris Akin

  • Prof. Barış Akin, M.D. received his medical degree from Ankara University, In 1995. He also received the "ECFMG certificate," which allows him to practice medicine in the United States.
  • He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine's general surgery program in 2000 and became a general surgery specialist. Dr. Akin completed his organ transplant surgical training at Ohio State University.
  • Dr. Barış Akin carried on practicing in the United States after earning his accreditation as a transplantation surgeon from the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
  • He performed 250 kidney transplants and 280 laparoscopic kidney removal procedures when he was a professor. He received the "Young Researcher Award" at the 2004 American Transplant Conference in appreciation of his research accomplishments.
  • In 2004, he went back to Turkey and began working at the Florence Nightingale Hospital group. The technique known as "retroperitonoscopy," which was discovered by Barış Akin, has made kidney removal from willing donors safer and more comfortable.
  • Since 2009, this approach has been used in more than 400 successful procedures at the kidney transplant center. The technique of retroperitonoscopy has gained popularity and has been presented at numerous medical conferences in America, Europe, and Turkey.
