  • Attendants from Sri Lanka to India must also submit a passport copy and proof of residence.
  • For attendants: Passport copy, Proof of residence and name included in the hospital letter (recommended).
  • For minors travelling alone or with one parent: Birth certificate, Passports of both parents (copies).
  • Consent/No-Objection Letter from both parents. If travelling with one parent, a NOC is required from the other parent.

  • Choose Medical e-Visa
  • Fill the form, upload documents (photos and passport copy), and pay the visa fee online.

Approval Process

  • Submit the form and wait for approval (usually a few days).
  • An approved e-Visa is emailed to you - print and carry it.
  • Some applicants may be called for a short embassy/consulate interview.
  • A valid passport (6+ months) is required for applicants travelling from Sri Lanka to India.
  • A medical certificate explaining your condition is needed for those seeking treatment from Sri Lanka to India.
  • A hospital invitation letter from an accredited Indian hospital must confirm the diagnosis and treatment for patients from Sri Lanka travelling to India.
  • Financial proof such as bank statements or sponsorship is required for travellers from Sri Lanka to India.
  • A return flight itinerary is needed for anyone planning travel from Sri Lanka to India.
  • Eligible applicants from Sri Lanka to India must require specialised treatments like cancer care, neurosurgery, or organ transplants.
  • A maximum of two attendants can accompany the patient.
  • Attendants must apply for a Medical Attendant Visa separately.
  • Patients needing high-priority, complex treatments - including neurosurgery, oncology and radiation therapy, joint replacement, cardiac surgery, renal disorders and transplant evaluations, ophthalmology, plastic/reconstructive surgery, congenital disorder care, and gene therapy are typically given visa preference.

e-Medical Visa

  • Valid for 60 days from arrival in India.
  • Allows up to 3 entries.

Regular Medical Visa

  • Initially granted for up to 1 year, depending on treatment duration.
  • Can be extended by Indian FRRO/FRO on doctor’s recommendation.
  • Further extensions require Ministry of Home Affairs approval.
  • Original passport + photocopy of bio page.
  • Recent photos (2"×2", white background).
  • Hospital Invitation Letter from an Indian hospital OR medical facilitator.
  • Medical referral letter from a local doctor recommending treatment in India.
  • Complete medical records and investigation reports.
  • Proof of funds – bank statement/sponsor letter.
  • ETA printout (for e-Medical Visa)
  • Confirmed return ticket or travel itinerary
