Required Documents

  • A valid Maldivian passport/travel document is required with a minimum of 180 days' validity, along with at least two blank pages for patients travelling from the Maldives to India.
  • An Indian Medical Visa or e-Medical Visa is required for patients travelling from the Maldives to India.
  • Hospital Invitation Letter from an accredited Indian hospital (NABH, JCI, MCI, ICMR-recognised)
  • Must include diagnosis, treatment plan, and duration
  • Medical referral letter from a Maldivian doctor
  • Complete medical reports & diagnostic records
  • Printed copy of the e-Visa approval, if applying online
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement or sponsor letter)
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Polio vaccination certificate (if transiting through polio-endemic countries)
  • Compliance with the latest advisories from the Indian Bureau of Immigration
  • Non-machine-readable passports are not accepted

Apply Online

  • Visit indianvisaonline.gov.in
  • Choose Medical e-Visa
  • Fill the form, upload documents (photos and passport copy), and pay the visa fee online.

Approval Process

  • Submit the form and wait for approval (usually a few days).
  • An approved e-Visa is emailed to you - print and carry it.
  • Some applicants may be called for a short embassy/consulate interview.
  • Hold a valid passport (180+ days validity)
  • Provide a medical recommendation from a Maldivian doctor
  • Present hospital appointment/admission letter from India
  • Show financial ability for treatment & stay
  • Provide proof of return travel plans

e-Medical Visa

  • Valid for 60 days from date of arrival
  • Allows up to 3 entries
  • Suitable for short-duration treatments

Regular Medical Visa

  • Valid for up to 1 year, based on treatment duration
  • Can be extended by FRRO/FRO with hospital recommendation
  • Further extensions require Ministry of Home Affairs approval
  • Original passport + photocopy of bio page.
  • Recent photos (2"×2", white background).
  • Hospital Invitation Letter from an Indian hospital OR medical facilitator.
  • Medical referral letter from a local doctor recommending treatment in India.
  • Complete medical records and investigation reports.
  • Proof of funds – bank statement/sponsor letter.
  • Confirmed return ticket or travel itinerary
  • Visa extensions must be requested 8–12 weeks before expiry.
