  • e-Visa Application: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/
  • Regular Visa Application: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/ Select “Medical Visa” and choose either Regular Visa or e-Visa depending on your preference.

Fill in all required details, including your Irish passport information and travel plans.

Gather and Upload Documents
Applicants from Ireland will need a valid passport (6 months+ with 2 blank pages), two recent 50x50 mm photos, stamped hospital letters from India and Ireland (if required), and supporting documents such as passport data page, previous visas, proof of address, and any additional documents requested.

Submit Application & Pay

  • Upload all required documents and a photo.
  • Pay the visa fee online using a credit or debit card.

Final Steps

  • e-Visa: Applicants from Ireland will receive an ETA by email, which must be printed and presented at immigration on arrival in India.
  • Regular Visa: Applicants from Ireland must visit a VFS Global centre to submit their application and provide biometrics, then collect their passport with the visa, or choose postal delivery.
  • You must be an Irish resident travelling to India for medical treatment at a recognised hospital, accompanied by up to two medical attendants.
  • The travel purpose must be solely for medical treatment in India.
  • Treatment must be at a recognised, reputed, or specialised hospital/healthcare centre in India.
  • Your Irish passport must have at least 6 months' validity and two blank visa pages.
  • Up to two medical attendants (family or close associates) may accompany you.
  • A signed and stamped medical letter from the Indian hospital confirming the treatment plan is required.
  • You must provide proof of sufficient funds for your treatment and stay in India.
  • Regular Medical Visa: Valid for up to 1 year with single or double entry for Ireland applicants.
  • e-Medical Visa: Valid for up to 60 days with triple entry; extendable up to 6 months by FRRO/FRO on a case-by-case basis.
  • Medical Attendants: Up to two attendants (blood relatives) from Ireland may apply for separate attendant visas with a validity matching the patient’s visa.

  • Optional: Referral or medical summary from your Irish doctor or hospital on official letterhead.
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements, sponsorship letter, etc.) for your stay in India.

Documents for Medical Attendants

  • Companion letter from the Indian hospital; patient’s medical visa number; passport and photo of attendants; and relationship proof, if requested.
