Apply Online
Residents of Germany can apply through the official Indian government visa portals:

  • e-Visa Application: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/
  • Regular Visa Application: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/ Select “Medical Visa” and choose either Regular Visa or e-Visa depending on your preference.

Fill in all required details, including your German passport information and travel plans.

Gather and Upload Documents
Applicants from Germany will need a valid passport (6 months+ with 2 blank pages), two recent 50x50 mm photos, an officially signed and stamped medical invitation/letter issued by the Indian hospital through the Medical & Ayush Visa Portal, and supporting documents such as passport data page, previous visas, proof of address, and any additional documents requested.

Submit Application & Pay

  • Upload all required documents and a photo.
  • Pay the visa fee online using a credit or debit card.

Final Steps

  • e-Visa: After approval, German applicants receive an e-Visa/ETA by email. Print it and carry it to India. The e-Medical visa is valid for 60 days from the date of first arrival and permits triple entry during that period.
  • Regular Visa: For Medical Visa applicants, the Indian hospital must generate the official medical invitation through the Medical & Ayush Visa Portal; VFS may ask to see this.
  • You must be a German resident travelling to India for medical treatment at a recognised Indian hospital. Up to two attendants may accompany you on separate Medical Attendant (MED-2) visas.
  • The travel purpose must be solely for medical treatment in India.
  • Treatment must be at a recognised, reputed, or specialised hospital/healthcare centre in India.
  • Your German passport must have at least 6 months' validity and two blank visa pages.
  • Up to two medical attendants (family or close associates) may accompany you.
  • A signed and stamped medical invitation/treatment plan generated by the Indian hospital through the Medical & Ayush Visa Portal is mandatory.
  • You must provide proof of sufficient funds for your treatment and stay in India.
  • Regular Medical Visa: May be issued for up to 1 year or the duration of treatment, whichever is earlier. Multiple entry is permitted.
  • e-Medical Visa: Valid for 60 days from the date of first arrival in India, with triple-entry permitted. The FRRO/FRO may consider an extension based on medical need.
  • Medical Attendants: Up to two attendants (blood relatives) from Germany may apply for separate attendant visas with a validity matching the patient’s visa.

To process your Germany-to-India medical visa smoothly, submit all documents in English and in the required formats.
Mandatory Documents

  • Digital photograph in JPEG format (10 KB-1 MB) with a light background, no shadows, no spectacles, square, borderless face view
  • Scanned copy of your German passport’s bio page in PDF (10–300 KB), with at least 6 months validity from your intended arrival date and a minimum of 2 blank pages.

Medical Visa-Specific Documents

  • Signed and stamped medical invitation/treatment plan generated by the Indian hospital via the Medical & Ayush Visa Portal (PDF 10–300 KB).
  • Optional: Referral or medical summary from your Germany doctor or hospital on official letterhead.
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements, sponsorship letter, etc.) for your stay in India.

Documents for Medical Attendants

  • Companion letter from the Indian hospital; patient’s medical visa number; passport and photo of attendants; and relationship proof, if requested.
  • All documents must follow the exact PDF/JPEG specifications.
  • Medical attendants must apply for a Medical Attendant (MED-2) visa, and their validity typically matches the patient’s medical visa.

Notes: Indian immigration may request extra information by email; German applicants must respond promptly to avoid delays. All documents must be clear, readable, and uploaded in the correct format.
