Ileoanal Anastomosis (J-Pouch) Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and may involve one or more surgical stages. The diseased colon and rectum are removed, after which a pouch is constructed from the end of the small intestine and connected to the anus. A temporary ileostomy may be used to divert stool during healing. After surgery, patients are monitored for bleeding, infection, anastomotic leakage, bowel obstruction, pouch-related complications, and changes in bowel function.
