Lumbar Puncture, also known as a spinal tap, is a minimally invasive procedure used to collect a sample of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the lower back. The sample can be analyzed to help diagnose or evaluate conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, or surrounding tissues, including infections, bleeding, inflammatory disorders, and certain neurological diseases. In selected situations, lumbar puncture may also be used to measure CSF pressure or administer medication into the spinal canal.
