Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC) is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition in which the body’s blood clotting system becomes overactive, leading to the formation of abnormal blood clots throughout the bloodstream. Over time, this can consume clotting factors and platelets, increasing the risk of severe bleeding and organ damage. DIC may occur as a complication of severe infections, trauma, cancer, major surgery, pregnancy-related complications, or critical illness. Patients may experience excessive bleeding, bruising, low blood pressure, breathing difficulties, confusion, or signs of organ dysfunction requiring urgent medical and intensive care management.
