Completely satisfied. Not only me but both my brothers, who were here – we all have a very good relation with them and we can keep coming back to them because we anyway plan to come for follow ups.
One of our patients from Mauritius underwent successful Kidney Transplant at India’s popular Venkateshwar Hospital in Delhi. Here is the video transcript from the interview of patient and the team MediGence.
Guneet: Just tell me a bit of background about yourself, where you are from, what is your age, what is yourailment, and how did you land here in India?
Allegri: My name is Ashwin and I am from Mauritius. I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) problem. Couple of weeks from my arrival here, I was on dialysis, which I don’t ever want to get back to. Luckily, I don’t need it now. From there. I tried to see where we can go, what are the options available for Mauritians.
So we contacted like a lot of agents and spoke to them and finally we got in touch with your company, MediGence and that’s where we had the best response from. The overall relationship has been quite personal. You gave us a few options and we decided to come to Venkateshwar Hospital.
Guneet: And how has been your journey especially with the doctors, what has been your experience, all the way from clearing the Ethics Committee to you know, all the struggles and the clinical management in particular?
Allegri: Well, medically the Ethics Committee was quite straightforward and we had to answer questions. It was all the preparation of the documents that had to be handed over to be looked at. Typically it was quite straightforward.
We did not have much contact with the doctors in the start so it was intense. But then we got to interact more and more with the doctors and this was a very positive experience. One thing that worled really well here is the relationship that we built with the doctors worked. They were very promising and very caring.
Wefelt at ease and eventually decided to go ahead with the procedure. They took their time, answered all the questions we had and this was infact the best thing we experienced – the relationship with the doctors, whether he is the surgeon Dr. Jha and his team and nephrologist, Dr. Varma. Excellent relation upto now.
In fact, it has kept us very positive all this way through.
Guneet: And were you counseled properly about everything, about medications you need to take, what precautions you should follow?
Allegri: Yeah, there was just one issue that, a, it doesn’t matter now though. But there was this cardiac issue. At the end of the day, we got the angiography done 4 days before the operation. If I look at it now since we’ve been through it, we missed something there because usually there is a – we have to have a clearance on everything, like cardiac and with other different doctors involved. So may be this test should have been done before because the problem was that I had already been through the plasma treatment considering ABO incompatible kidney transplant and the injections – I forgot the name of the injections. I did all this and then the cardiac issue came to notice. So I think the cadiac issue and blockage should have come before. But it’s alright, it happens. So, at this point, we have to take a decision to go for transplantation or CABG and I have been going through all the processes and came back zero.
Then I was told that there is 10 percent risk in the surgery and I had to take it. But now I think, the angio should have happened before the plasma treatment. Otherwise, no issues at all.
Guneet: And how likely are you to recommend Dr. Jha and Dr. Varma?
Allegri: 100%, not even 99%. I want to verify that because I am very happy – the approach. See I am habitual to the country, I came here in India and met very good doctor in Mumbai also. So I am used to getting – due to health- I deal with a lot of doctors. And so from my experience, no, I had no problems at any time during the treatment.
Guneet: Any meesage for them?
Allegri: [laughing] I think I have sent them the message already.
Guneet: So you are completely satisfied with them?
Allegri: Completely satisfied. Not only me but both my brothers, who were here – we all have a very good relation with them and we can keep coming back to them because we anyway plan to come for follow ups.
Guneet: That’s actually an important part of transplant, that you stay in touch with them for all the post-op follow ups.
Allegri: and Tac levels and everything
Guneet: Yes, because they keep on changing medications accordingly.
Allegri: So they gave me their Whatsapp number so that I can send them messages and tel them about the varying levels as per the reporrs. So yes, that’s very comforting.
Guneet: Ok so clinically you’re completely satisfied I assume.
Allegri: Yes, no problems at all. Not only me but my family as well. Because they’ve been in conversation with them.
Guneet: They have been your attendants but when you are a patient, you know, you have to be satisfied because you’re the one experiencing the clinical standards.
Were they friendly to you?
Allegri: Very friendly.
Guneet: So they shared all the opinion and everything in black and white with you? Whatever the situation was and and howto go about it.
Allegri: They were very friendly and frank. It was very important for me to control the situation and make the decision.
Guneet: Okay, thank you so much.
